The Genesis of a Guerrilla

In the world of self publishing, where marketing budget pockets are as deep as a very shallow pocket, one must adopt a certain… creativity. The traditional routes are well-trodden, but to truly stand out, I realised I needed to embrace the guerrilla within. This meant going beyond mere book signings and readings; it was about creating moments, happenings, and spectacles that would etch Pamela DeMenthe not just in the public’s minds but in their memories.

The Mission

The first step was to map out my mission. I targeted not just bookstores but unconventional venues where my audience might lurk. Coffee shops, supermarkets, zoo’s, public toilets – anywhere new unexplored readers could be hiding, not yet knowing, but secretly yearning for an escape into the realms of desire. Each location in turn, became a stage.

An Experience

The essence of a successful DIY book tour lies in crafting an unforgettable experience. For me, this meant not just reading from my latest tome but performing it. I infused each session with the essence of Pamela DeMenthe – Creating a memorable interactive experience, where my audience felt part of the fantasy.

The Power of Word-of-Mouth

In the age of digital dominance, the power of word-of-mouth remains undiminished. Each performance was designed not just to entertain but to inspire conversation, to make each attendee not just a reader but a messenger, spreading the gospel of DeMenthe through the ether.

Leveraging Social Media

While my tour was grounded in the physical world, I didn’t neglect the digital. Social media became my ally, broadcasting my escapades to those beyond my immediate geographical reach. Live streams and behind-the-scenes moments, kept the internet asking the question “Where Pamela might pop up next?”

Reflections from the Road

As my DIY book tour drew to a close, I found myself reflecting on the journey. It was a testament to the power of presence, of putting oneself out there in the most literal sense. Did it sell any books? No. Did I end up with several restraining orders? Absolutely. Was it worth it? Ask my audience…they will say yes.
